A condensate line has to end somewhere, and in Southeast Texas it ends in one of three places. Many homes run it through an exterior wall to drip on the ground, where the outlet gets buried in mulch, plugged by a wasp nest, or packed with whatever the string trimmer threw at it. Others tie the line into the plumbing system, usually at a lavatory tailpiece or a laundry standpipe. That tie-in is the part a plumber cares about, because one done without a trap or an air gap can let sewer gas travel back up the line and into the air handler, and from there into every room in the house.
