This Orange, TX bathroom started out with a standard tub and surround. Stepping over the tub wall to get in and out had become difficult and unsafe, so the homeowner asked for a walk-in shower in its place. We took the bathroom back to the studs, pulled the old tub, and built a curbless walk-in shower where it used to sit. The walls and floor were tiled, and we added a grab bar, a fold-down seat, and a handheld shower head. There is no threshold and no tub wall to climb over, so getting in and out is a straight, level step. If an aging tub is making daily routines harder than they should be, a walk-in shower conversion is one of the most practical changes you can make to a bathroom.
