Our Services in Taylor Landing, TX

Taylor Landing is a very small Jefferson County city, fewer than 300 residents, sitting about fifteen miles from our Beaumont shop in the low, flat country south of town. It is close to the marsh and the water table is high, and both of those facts show up in the plumbing. We do not get a high volume of calls from a place this size, but the ones we do get tend to be substantive rather than routine, and they reward knowing the local ground conditions before you start digging. Porter's has served Taylor Landing since 2022, with master plumbers carrying 25 years in the trade. We are licensed master plumbers through the TSBPE, insured and bonded.

A High Water Table Changes Every Below-Grade Decision

This is low ground. The water table sits close to the surface, and that is the single most important fact about doing plumbing work here. It means excavation fills. A trench opened for a sewer repair can take on water while you are working in it, which affects how a repair gets staged and how bedding and backfill have to be handled. It also means that a sewer line with a crack or an open joint is sitting in groundwater much of the year rather than occasionally, so infiltration is continuous rather than seasonal. Practically, when we camera a line out here we are reading for infiltration and for low spots that hold water as much as for blockages. A belly in the line and a root intrusion produce a similar complaint at the fixture and they do not get the same repair, so it is worth being certain before committing to one.

Storm Exposure in Low Country

Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and Tropical Storm Imelda in 2019 both put substantial water across this part of Jefferson County. In low-lying areas the effect on plumbing is less about the flood itself and more about what saturation does over time. Sewer laterals shift when the ground around them saturates and then dries. Joints that were sound separate slightly. Septic drain fields that were adequate stop keeping up because the soil around them never fully dries out between events. If your house behaved fine for years and started backing up during heavy rain sometime after 2017 or 2019, that sequence is meaningful and it points at the lateral rather than at anything inside the house.

Slab-on-Grade Over Soft, Wet Ground

Construction here is slab-on-grade like the rest of the region, but the soil underneath behaves differently when it holds water most of the year. Gulf Coast clay expands as it takes on moisture and contracts as it dries, and where the ground stays wetter longer that cycle is less extreme but the baseline movement is still there. Supply lines running through a slab move with it. The signs of a slab leak are the same anywhere: a warm spot on the floor, a water bill that steps up without explanation, or water running audibly with every fixture closed. Locating it early is what keeps it a plumbing repair. Winter Storm Uri in 2021 added another layer to this, breaking exposed runs across the region on properties that had never had a freeze problem.

What We Ask Before Driving Out

Because the properties here are spread out and the ground is what it is, we ask a few more questions on the phone for a Taylor Landing call than we would for one in town. Whether you are on municipal service or a septic system, whether the problem is at one fixture or throughout the house, whether anything has been dug or worked on recently, and whether this started around a specific weather event. Those four answers usually tell us what to load on the truck. It is not a screening process. It is so that we show up with the right equipment the first time, which on a fifteen mile call matters to both of us.

FAQ — Taylor Landing

Does the high water table out here make sewer repairs harder?
It affects how the work is staged, because an open trench can take on groundwater. It does not prevent a proper repair, but it is a reason to have the diagnosis right before opening the ground.
My drains got worse after Harvey and never really recovered. Is that related?
Quite possibly. Saturation shifts the ground around sewer laterals and can separate joints that were previously sound. If the change tracks to a specific storm, that is worth telling us, and a camera inspection will confirm it.
Do you come out for a town this small?
Yes. Taylor Landing is about fifteen miles from our Beaumont location and it is part of our normal service area.
